A Proper Introduction

Hey, I’m Mary!

In real life, I’m an Occupational Therapist working in an inpatient rehabilitation unit, specifically with those who have spinal cord injuries. I have a Master of Science in that profession and a Bachelor of Science in Recreational Therapy. I’m also a copywriter on the side, and I like to call myself a part-time cowpoke.

I own a couple of mares, planning for a stud prospect, am partial to the Hancock line, and love a good, ranchy cowhorse. I ride as much as I can and love learning about stockmanship, cattle handling, and practicing big loop roping when I’m not working with colts.

The picture of what my dream life looks like has changed throughout the years, and continues to do so. I could write a whole series on that. For now, though, I’m focusing on enjoying where I am at the moment, and living life as authentically as I can.

Another Blog?

With the encouragement of my equestrian friends, who have enjoyed my oral stories describing my equine adventures, I thought putting them into writing would be even more fun.

I have a unique background full of twists and turns, some exciting and some devastating. My sense of humor is honed and dark, complementing some dry wit and more foul language than I should admit. (Don’t worry, no curse words on the record here).

My style of horsemanship encourages partnership, and as any good horsewoman, I’m constantly learning myself. I ride part of the time, but I constantly find myself applying horsemanship principles to daily life. It’s scary how working with people is so much like working with horses.

I hope for this blog to be fun, enlightening, educational, inspiring, and comforting to those who read it. I find myself with almost too many irons in the fire at times, and I try to keep work, life, and side commitments balanced. Sometimes it teeters one way or the other, but such is life.

If you’re interested in content about working horsemanship on the side while trying to hold down a full-time job and save up some money to build a dream, you’ve landed in the right place.

Before you come along for the ride, remember to tighten your cinch before you swing a leg up.

Best, Mary
